Great Homemade Father's Day Gifts

If you give your dad a silk tie in the local department store every year, it's time to shake things up and try something a little more exciting. Instead of sticking with the gifts that children have been buying for their fathers for generations, take out your craft supplies and help your kids make one of these easy and great homemade gifts.

Purchase a plain tie and turn it right into a personalized treasure with a photo from the kids and picture transfer techniques. The simplest picture transfer technique involves buying printable transfer paper, making the photo on the paper and ironing the printed transfer to the tie. This technique is also probably the most kid-friendly one, as other techniques involve chemicals. If photo transfers just don't capture your imagination, try sewing vintage bubble gum machine charms to some tie to create a fun conversation piece or letting the children use fabric paint to show it into a piece of artwork Dad may take along with him.

Make a handy and useful group of magnet clips for the side of Dad's file cabinet, his fridge, or his magnetic white board. You'll need magnets, clothespins, hot glue, paint and decorations. We used photos from the kids as our decorations, but small toys will also be a good idea. Paint the clothespins and allow them to dry. Once the paint is thoroughly dry, glue the magnets to 1 side of the clothespins and glue the decorations to another side. It is a very simple craft, but many of fun for kids to make. Better still, it is something Dads can in fact use.

Find a container which has something to do with Dad's favorite hobby and grow it with things he likes. For instance, turn a golf hat inverted and put a set of new baseballs, passes to a local driving range, a number of his favorite snacks along with a golf training DVD within it. These themed father's day gift baskets are lots of fun to put together and won't find themselves in the back corner of Dad's closet having a decade's worth of ties that say "Number One Dad.".
